Jan is the head of the Czech Centre for Human Rights and Democracy. After finishing his studies in law, as well as in economics, he continued with PhD studies in international law. He also obtained an E.MA degree in human rights from Venice and Graz. He worked in a law firm, as well as in the Legal Affairs Division of the European External Action Service in Brussels, which is responsible for EU external relations. Later he worked as a Visiting Professional in the Chambers of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Currently he also works as a lawyer at the Office of the Public Defender of Rights (Ombudsperson) and as a senior researcher at the Centre for International Law of the Institute of International Relations in Prague. Within the area of international law, he focuses mainly on human rights and international criminal law.
